taking software from GO I think, sound-recording &
playing, pen-based calculator, voice-phone, and
security software. You also get a FREE AT&T Mail account I
think :) The personal communicator hooks right in to AT&T
mail..
: (The Newton may eventually able to be hooked right into
AOL, but that's another story)
: I'd like to now discuss what these personal
communicator's CANNOT do(no, they're not perfect).
: You can't really print to a post script printer from
them as they don't support AppleTalk. The EO can only talk
to HP LaserJets & LaserJet wannabes.
AFA Dan : Gabe, what do you think about these things?
GabrielFM : I think I wont be able to buy them!
AFA Dan : Yuppers, Gabe, they are expensive.
AFC Sarah : Dan..I would like a bit of comparison between the
PowerBook and the PDAs!
AFA Dan : Yuppers, Gabe, they are expensive.
AFC Sarah : BTW, Gabe YOU have a PowerBook, right?
AFC Sarah : I think a third party should come out with
: an ADB keyboard that you could attach to pen-based PDAs
for FULL computer access!
: Something thin so it would fold and fit in the
paper-back book sized case of your PDA!
AFA Dan : Sarah, you can have them on the EO.
AFC Sarah : No, but Dan, NOT a full chunky keyboard..a full sized
FOLDING one...tiny when folded1
GabrielFM : Ah, well I don't like the PDAs now because they are
pen based
AFC Sarah : Ohh, THAT limits the EO for sure
AFA Dan : The Wizard is still here.
AFC Sarah : Well, the Wizard is VERY expensive once you add on
the modem and modules!
AFA Dan : yuppers.
AFA Dan : EO has a lot of Apple former employees on their staff
too!
GabrielFM : Well, I will need a good job then! What is the
definition of yuppers?
AFA Dan : Yuppers = Yes.
AFA Dan : :D
We hope you enjoyed the log of this most interesting conference. As time goes on I think we'll see more minituarization and the increase of use in devices like PDA's. The Nomadic Computing SIG is your link to them all!
Goodnight!
Portions of the information used in this conference came from an article by Henry Bortman in Mac User magazine's February 1993 issue.
